Model 90 Dual 1911 Shoulder Rig
( .45 x two )
CR-45 deep cover 1911
There have been many shoulder holster designs for the 1911 auto pistol over the years. Many of them have had design problems which created serious safety issues. Problems like unsafe firearm position, poor firearm retention, holster interference with firearm controls, weak attachment methods, poor concealability, etc. After decades of modifying and enhancing problem holsters for service use, Dave Lauck has designed a professional grade 1911 shoulder holster system.
The model 90's design features were arrived at by experiencing many failures with lesser designs. Knowing what fails in the field provides valuable knowledge in how to design a shoulder rig which is highly resistant to failure.
The model 90 carries the pistols in vertical positions. This keeps the muzzles downward and not pointing at those behind you. The vertical holsters securely attach to the belt line. No pull-the-dot snaps are used. Snap belt attachments have proven to release at the wrong time and prevent a proper draw.
The model 90 features holster belt loops which are sewn at the top and the bottom. The belt is threaded through the holster loops, the loops are not snapped over the belt. This allows for best security. These solid belt attached holster loops, combined with the X shoulder harness, allow the rig to act as a comfortable set of suspenders. This allows for even weight distribution, and allows for easy carry of heavy ammo and equipment loads on the belt line.

The holster belt loops are designed for 1¾" belts. The loops are ½" wider than the belt width to allow the holsters to angle forward and back as the operator leans forward and back.
The X pattern shoulder harness is adjustable to fit a very wide variety of torso sizes. The adjustability allows for a comfortably snug fit to be achieved. The double layered heavy duty elastic at the center of the X harness allows for some firm flex in the system to allow for comfortable body movement.
The holsters on the model 90 allow for a top and forward draw of the pistols. Why? Because experience with break front vertical shoulder holsters have revealed serious problems. A break front shoulder holster which will retain the pistol during serious physical activity has not yet been experienced. A break front that is tight enough to hold the pistols during serious physical activity would make for a very difficult draw and reholster process. Common break front holsters allow for easy gun snatches from the front by an aggressor. Adding a security snap/strap slows the draw for the operator.

A top and forward draw stroke minimizes the chance the pistols will be ripped out of the front break opening of the holster. The model 90 has no such opening, the front area of the holsters are sewn and bolted shut. The pistols can't be simply pulled out forward.
The top draw holster design of the model 90 allows for reasonable pistol retention, while still allowing either pistol to be quickly drawn with either hand while in a variety of body positions. The model 90 works very well from a seated position.

Holster tension can be set by individual operators to suit their needs. This is accomplished by adjusting two tension screws fitted into each holster. No additional snap straps are used in the model 90 holster system. The tension adjustment range of these holsters makes them suitable for 1911s with or without light rails.
People evaluating holsters are responsible for determining what level of safety and security is right for their individual needs. You must decide what mode of carry is right for you. (Dave Lauck does not recommend the condition one carry of 1911s without trigger activated firing pin blocks). You must determine how a rig will be worn. A concealment rig should obviously be worn concealed to minimize gun snatcher accessibility. You must also assure the holster you choose can not inadvertently operate the controls on your pistol. Make sure the size of controls on your pistol and the design of your holster does not allow for the thumb safety to be brushed off or the magazine button to be depressed.

The model 90 double 1911 rig is professionally constructed of premium grade cowhide. This rig is designed for years of service. The leather used is heavy enough to be durable, yet light enough to be comfortable. The holster tensioning devices will allow operators to compensate for long term usage by allowing fine adjustments in holster fit.
This is a professional grade holster system well suited to special investigators, personal protection details, plain clothes operations, etc.
