Extended 1911 Magazine Release
Magazine Release Magazine Release
Some shooters prefer an extended magazine release on their 1911 pistols. It allows most people to release the magazine from the pistol without having to flip the pistol sideways in their hand. Keeping the pistol in a firing grip allows a shooter to keep more control on the pistol and avoid flipping the muzzle in a dangerous direction. This allows for a quicker and more positive reload.
Generally speaking an extended magazine release is NOT recommended for a defense, CCW, or duty pistol. The magazine can be unexpectedly released from the pistol unless the shooter understands other requirements for using a pistol equipped with an extended magazine release. The mag release must be protected from unexpected depression by using a full power mag button spring and a holster designed around the release button so it does not get depressed while the pistol is carried in the holster. The shooter must also use a firing grip which does not unexpectedly depress the button.
Defensive shooters must be aware of their mag release capability in a grappling situation. In some situations, such as a deep cover carry pistol, a flush or even recessed magazine release button is a good idea. This magazine button was designed for experienced and skilled shooters who are trained on it and understand its use. Competition oriented single stack shooters will certainly be able to benefit from its use.
This magazine release was designed to properly position the magazine internally for reliable pistol operation. Externally this mag release was designed with only moderate overall height away from the frame. It protrudes .298" away from the flat of the frame. The magazine button is oblong once fitted and blended. It extends to the rear approximately .400". The mag button is secured to the mag release in such a way that it does not rotate out of its proper position.
This accessory item must be blended and fit by a skilled and experienced 1911 pistolsmith to assure proper safety and function.
